Jeff, in fairness to the provincial Mrs. Vilsack, I’m not sure that Iowans speak with the same accent as that exaggerated in Fargo. The Iowans that I know ? including my wife ? certainly don’t.
They do tend to share Vilsack’s belief that Midwesterners don’t have accents; everyone else does. Must be a regional peculiarity.
