The Rhino’s John Hammer says the Greensboro City Council is starting “to look like last year’s council, which discussed issues forever but had trouble getting anything done.”
Hammer gets around to the latest Greensboro Coliseum expenditure deep into the article:
(Robbie) Perkins asked how much it would cost to get the amphitheater to the point they could hold shows, and Coliseum Manager Matt Brown said about an additional $350,000. Perkins asked that an item be placed on the next agenda to discuss allocating the money needed to get the amphitheater ready to hold events this summer.
Perkins thinks the money needs to be spent, but getting five votes to spend $350,000 for another venue at the Coliseum is not going to be easy, especially when $130,000 has already been used with council approval coming only after the money was already spent.
I agree getting five votes won’t be easy, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be gotten. For what it’s worth, Mayor Bill Knight was silent during the discussion of the amphitheater’s ever-evolving expense, adding only at the end that a real nice amphitheater was opening at Barber Park soon.
