As a former Ron Paul staffer I think I can say that Ron will stick to his principles on whatever question comes before him. I don’t think he cares whether that translates into a political win, though as Congressman he has won his district handily (at around 70% of the vote) in his numerous re-election bids. This, even though he has changed districts over time. (Tom DeLay took Ron’s seat and district when Dr. Paul challenged Phil Graham for John Tower’s open Senatorial seat in the mid-’80’s).

Ron Paul’s list of things he is for (rather than against) is also unusual for a member of Congress, and includes sound money ?a reinstatement of a redeemable gold standard for our currency, last time I checked. The piece quoted by Mitch concludes with a good snapshot of Ron Paul’s mission:
“Still, Paul is not only a cheerful anachronism but a useful one. He forces us to consider the continuing relevance of some old arguments, and he reminds us that much of the reverence for the Founders is more rhetorical than operational.”
