In Mitch’s post, he discusses George Will’s recent article
regarding the attack on political speech.  I’d heard about the
Seattle case discussed in Will’s article (I’ll let the article explain
it).  The case’s holding is not a surprise.  Nor should there
be any surprise in regards to how campaign finance regulations are
being used.  If you pass a law that restricts political speech,
that is precisely what will happen in practice.  Government and
private interests also will try and stretch the law’s application to
undermine their opponent’s speech for their own advantage.
