NPR has obtained a secret recording of Sen. Richard Burr–who is chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee—commenting to a private audience on the dangers of coronvirus.
Burr’s comments to the Tar Heel Circle came two weeks before the Trump administration stepped and began taking serious measures to combat the virus. Burr advised those attending that they might want to reconsider business (or otherwise) travel to Europe. The NPR reporter speculates that had Burr issued this warning to the general public, it would have given them more time to prepare.
