This reminds me of the feeling I had during the early days of the Internet boom. I’m just old enough that I never heard the word “Internet” in college (or if I did hear it, it was spoken by some computer dude whose language was foreign to these ears).

Perhaps that explains why I was puzzled a couple years later when I started hearing people rave about the role computers and technology were going to play in revolutionizing education. My thought at the time: “This Internet thing sounds like a great tool, but it’s just a tool. Learning how to use the Internet is learning to use a tool. It’s not the same thing as learning about math or English or history.”
