Allow me to respond by proposing a new teacher pay concept for North Carolina’s public schools. It’s called the Stoops Point System.

1 point = $10,000 in annual salary
All teachers begin with five (5) points.

State certification (-1 point)
National Board Certification (-1 point)
Master’s or doctoral degree in education (-1 point)
Have said “I touch the world/future, I teach” (-2 points)
Member of the NCAE (-3 points)
Call self “facilitator” (-5 points)

Students take an EOG or EOC test (+0.5 point)
Math, science, or special education teacher (+1 point)
Student achievement gains, one grade level or more (+1 point)
Use direct instruction (+2 points)
Memorization of facts required (+2 points)
Make fun of education jargon, acronyms (+2 points)
