You are correct that no one needs to spell out the alternate lyric in Manfred Mann’s No. 1 hit from 1976. We’ve all heard it.
I found it strange that your link quoted the lyric as “Wrapped up like a deuce.” I had always understood the lyric to be (at least in theory) “Revved up like a deuce.”

That latter version seems closer to Bruce Springsteen’s original lyric — from Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J. — “Cut loose like a deuce.”
