After writing my last two posts, I remembered our brief family trip to the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. We drove down on a whim and went to a basketball game, enjoyed the “feel” of the Olympic experience, and left that same night. The bomb went off in Centennial Park that night, incidentally, which we found out when we turned on the TV in our motel room (in Greenville, SC) the next morning.

Anyway, as you can imagine, the costs of Olympic-themed merchandise in the village was exorbitant, and we refused to pay it. As we headed out of Atlanta, we stopped at a Wal-Mart and bought Olympic T-shirts there for a fraction of what we would have paid downtown.

Thanks, Wal-Mart, for that wonderful and memorable experience!
