These mean-spirited comments are truly awful. I suppose these folks would show equal disdane for the contributions of David Robinson, formerly of the San Antonio Spurs and the U.S. Naval Academy. A recent Washington Post “Review & Outlook” commentary (no link available) details Robinson’s $9 million contribution to a private school called the Carver Academy. According to the Post column, the school stresses excellence to its mostly black and Latino students. Robinson’s efforts were recently honored by the William E. Simon Foundation with its 2004 Prize in Philanthropic Leadership. Robinson says “that it was the U.S. Naval Academy that impressed upon him the meaning of discipline and service — that there are more important things than making a boatload of money.” Pat Tillman is smiling down on David Robinson, but the rude, classless folks posting awful remarks on that web site will never understand these two fine men.
