This “no one succeeds in isolation, therefore we must have collectivism” argument is such a flabbergasting non sequitur that only an academician could believe it.
Lakoff may be a linguist, but take a look at that sentence “No one succeeds by themselves.” Has the old rule that a single subject takes a single pronoun been repealed?
I can’t resist. I’ll have to review Lakoff’s book Whose Freedom?
