Just read the Stateline article Mess noted and was stunned by this section:
The letter declares NGA?s support for
Voinovich’s proposal in Congress, saying it would “restore certainty,
enhance state sovereignty and promote economic health in the states.”
Don’t governors and legislators usually
say they wish someone would stop them from providing incentives? Now
the National Governors’ Association wants “legislation to explicitly grant states the power to offer tax incentives for economic development.”
I’m still waiting for a state to offer free labor to a company, in addition to free land and no taxes.
