Mitch, you accidentally bring up another little-heard (anymore) band: Jethro Tull. And I’m with you — especially since I got my iPod, FM is rarely heard in my car anymore. When I do punch up one of those stations, it is almost always one of those few-hundred songs they have beat to death. There are so many songs that have been popular in the past that they just ignore. It makes no sense.

I’ll never forget when I was a kid in the mid-1970s, when “Saturday Night Fever” was out, and one day I got into the car with my dad. He said before he turned on the radio, “Let me see if they’re playing ‘Staying Alive.'” Sure enough, he clicked it on and there it was, starting up. I guess radio has almost always been mostly predictable…at least as long as I’ve been alive.
