A remember that a few years ago Raleigh fined one of the Leith auto dealerships for “improper pruning of trees” on its property. Maybe if that homeowner had cut his grass, the city would still go after him for doing it improperly.
All of this brings to mind Alexis de Tocqueville once again — on how America might eventually lose its freedom to the soft despotism of innumerable laws and regulations. That’s exactly what has happened.
