Chad, you’re right. It’s crazy that Houston went ahead and built light rail despite evidence that it won’t live up to expectations. Now the Super Bowl plans prove it doesn’t work. If it wasn’t so funny, it would be sad. Yet, the same blinders are being worn by those who support the proposal for the Triangle. Remember, last year the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority decided to forego a rail link to the airport because its engineering study demonstrated the cost would be astronomical and the ridership miniscule. If ever there was a corridor with enough density to support rail, it would be the one to/from RDU. But not even that route can be justified. Still, the Triangle choo-choo chugs on with officials happily talking about how great it will be to live in utopia.
