Thoughts of a distant cousin who was a Penn St. cheerleader — skirt-wearing division — compel me to point out that Nittany is a mountain near campus, Beaver Stadium provides a view of it. Hence, mountain lions who dwell there would be Nittany Lions.

And Joe, I grew up in Bo Schembechler’s hometown of Barberton, Ohio. Like every town in that entire region, it emptied every Friday nite to watch HS football.

I saw the Browner brothers play long before they hit ND or the the NFL, countless future Big Ten stars, Gary Faust’s Cincinnati Moeller powerhouse, games at Massillon (Barberton won), Canton McKinley, Stow, Youngstown, East Liverpool. You name it.

I was also afflicted with being a Cleveland Browns fan for many years, but Art Modell moving the team to Maryland for $300 million in cash cured me of that. (I was a Maryland taxpayer at the time.)

Now I live and die via the Panthers.
