Regarding David’s post, in yesterday’s Pope Center Clarion Call I wrote about the new federal policy on forgiving student loans for those who (as Education Secretary Arne Duncan puts it) “follow their heart” and go into the public sector rather than working in the private sector.
The premise of this policy is that the government is “losing talent” because so many people who have high student loan debts, feel the need to go for the supposedly high compensation you find in the private sector. What baloney. This idiotic policy is simply a taxpayer gift to people lucky enough to land one of those high-pay, low-stress, secure government jobs.
