During this morning’s rare Friday legislative session, Sen. Walter Dalton, D-Rutherford, read excerpts from a Florida newspaper article. The article bemoaned the loss of some Florida companies to the Tar Heel State.
To what did the Floridians attribute the exodus? North Carolina’s incentives.
Dalton read the article in the context of praising a deal that will bring Indian Motorcycle Co. and boatmaker Chris-Craft to Cleveland County. The state and the county have promised incentives of nearly $15 million to secure those deals.
Matt has the right idea about the best incentives for business, but these previous paragraphs offer some indication of the mountain that lies ahead of free-market thinkers.
