The last line in the Voice piece is the interesting one, about Dem bigwigs knifing the Dean campaign.
You see, I always thought that structually at least Dean’s campaign was best suited to beat Bush. Anyone else would have to face Bush’s tremendous free and bought media advantage with little more than a pop-gun to respond.
We see this week with Medalgate that when the free media turns on Kerry his campaign looks utterly helpless. I don’t think that this particular issue will be crippling for Kerry, but his response to it, such as it has been, does not bode well.
In sum, Senators are not well equipped to run against sitting presidents. They tend to try to set up Shadow White Houses instead of nimble, proactive campaigns.
So is John Edwards a sitting Senator or not? His coat-rack has made as many Senate votes this year.
