On the class size shibboleth, one observation was made at a recent Cato Institute conference. When the cost of a smaller class size is not passed on to consumers (in this case, the parents), the demand is potentially infinite. When the same parents make college decisions for the same student, one year later, suddenly a freshman chemistry section with two hundred classmates isn’t quite as disconcerting as the high school class with thirty.
