I think that George may have hit upon a good 2 issue test of whether someone is a liberal, conservative, or libertarian. George states: ” If a leftist had to choose between the privatization of retirement planning and the privatization of education, I think he’d probably prefer the former.”

If we changed his example just slightly we get the test I refer to above. Focussing on the privatization of retirement and education: if one is in favor of privatizing neither then it is safe to predict that he is a liberal. If he is in favor of a some degree of privatization of social security but no privatization of education then he is a conservative. If he favors privatization of both then he is libertarian.
