If the calls to my radio show yesterday were any indication… the folks in western NC are not too pleased with the fact that Legislators are busy wining and dining at the finest restaurants in WNC, playing free golf, touring the Biltmore Estate and more while so many residents and businesses are still without homes and buildings here.
Hundreds of bridges are still washed out, there are people crossing make shift wood plank bridges to get to their homes, crumpled cars litter stream beds and whole neighborhoods sit empty with big red X’s on the front of the houses awaiting demolition.
There is a definite “Let them eat cake” feeling to this weekend’s Legislative Getaway to Asheville. Some legislators have responded to the resident?s frustration by pointing out that their buses are driving past some flood damaged areas – in between scheduled events. Protests are starting to pop up all over the area.
What a sad day for people STILL awaiting relief from the state that has yet to arrive.
