I am amazed at how easily swayed many Americans are by people like Michael Moore, who find it amusing to denegrate this country’s values and promote those of dictatorial government and its followers. Perhaps Mr. Moore and Mr. Jones of Hickory, who now believes the Bush administration is just one big conspiracy to squash the little guy, should take to heart the words of a person who actually knows the facts about Iraq and the horrors of Saddam Hussein — Dr. Maha Alattar, an assistant professor at UNC-Chapel Hill’s medical school who was featured in a Raleigh News & Observer column by Rick Martinez.

“Over 1 million people are still unaccounted for, they’ve vanished,” she said. Among those are seven of her family members. After the liberation, her family discovered that three of them had been executed at Abu Ghraib prison during the 1990s. Add another million people killed in the wars Saddam started with Iran and Kuwait and Alattar wonders how any compassionate human being can justify not invading Iraq.

The entire column is available here.

Note that Dr. Alattar will be the guest speaker at the Locke Foundation’s July 12 Shaftesbury Society luncheon.
