I don’t know if we are losing that personal connection. I see things such as Instant Messenger clients as a way of helping communications. When I was entering college, IM clients were first being used by a large number of students to keep in touch. It’s how I kept in contact with friends at other colleges. It was a money saver at times, because it saved on long distance phone charges.
