Thanks, Mitch. More evidence for my theory on the overselling of college is always welcome.
Last Friday I was looking for more evidence on the Bureau of Labor Statistics site. The BLS keeps track of educational levels for a vast number of occupations. Here are two I saw that are revealing. For full-time workers aged 25 to 44, in the category “baggage porters and bellhops” 33 percent have “some college” (that is, they took some classes but didn’t graduate) and 16 percent have a BA or higher. For theater ticket takers and ushers, 30 percent have some college and 17 percent have a BA or higher.
But Obama insists that we must put more and more kids through college, so that must be true.
