Jon,

I would assume that NBC’s plan was to go to the
Martinsville race, correct? I was at that race. From my perspective had
NBC came up to our truck where we were enjoying some of Milwaukee’s
greatest contribution to American society, they would’ve been met with
a smile, a handshake, and good conversation. NASCAR is no different
than any other tailgating sport. You’re going to have those who are too
drunk to know what day of the week it is and others who are there to
have a good, responsible time like my group. I would suspect that NBC
News wanted to paint NASCAR fans as being out of touched with society,
which I find to be an odd news story choice for the network. Not only
is the idea stupid from a journalistic perspective, it makes no point
from a business perspective as well. NBC still has broadcast rights
with NASCAR through the end of the season following the second Daytona
race. The story would make fans question why they’d want to watch a
race on NBC.
