Donna, The AMA’s presumed consent idea is just another example of
doctors’ antipathy to markets and individual rights. The way to get
more organs to people in need is to offer money to the decedent’s
family. Like the rest of health care (and also education) there is too
great a demand and too little supply for important goods and services
when there are no prices. if the AMA wants to solve the problem of
supply, they could do worse than to support a market for organs.
