Michael, you’re exactly right about the market and
hurricanes. One of the indelible images I have of Hurricane Frederick
in Alabama in 1979 was the convoy of about 100 Davey Tree
trucks headed toward Mobile on I-65 the day before the hurricane was to
hit. No central planning bureaucrat would ever have thought of that,
but a profit-minded Davey Tree executive did. Consequently, as soon as
Frederick cleared, the truck crews were cutting down trees for grateful,
paying customers.
