My thought was that schools that avoid entanglement would be worth a
premium over schools that subject themselves to the creeping socialism
of government funding. If vouchers were provided to families, it would
be possible to use them for homeschooling, but this could subject
homeschoolers to government supervision just as  it could private schools.

I
agree that property owners (county) and wage earners (state) without
children are asked to pay for schools, which is exacerbated when mostly
parents of school-age children vote in tax increase referenda and are
usually happy to have others share the financial burden of education.Of course, taxing families with children to pay for schools would run counter the various child and educational tax credits
available. A tax on children would also have a negative effect on
family structure. If vouchers aren’t the answer because of the
potential for government overreach, surely additional taxes on families
are not the solution either.

Again, I hope the school board
proposal leads to an evaluation of the funding mess that leaves nobody
accountable for results in public education but gives each party at
least two others to blame for the mess.
