Jenna, all I can say is: BABY STEPS.  The broken window
fallacy is probably too hard for this guy.  And, I regret, the
broken window fallacy does not bother me as much as this part:

Which is it, a moment of open hearts or resistance?  I think he wants the government to open our hearts for us.
