The candy cigarettes I remember are the white chalky hard candy variety, a little smaller than a real cigarette, in a pretty authentic looking box (like those pictured earlier). They taste terrible, and in this I believe they share their closest similarity to real cigarettes. The candy smokes are absolutely not complete without the hot pink (not red, mind you) tip, to indicate their ‘lit’ status. Color it in yourself if you get one that’s a ‘blank,’ or you may as well throw the thing away.
I have purchased these genuine faux items at a store in the streets of Southpoint (around Halloween time), in a shop in Fuquay-Varina, NC (also around Halloween), in one of the riverfront shops across from the riverwalk in Wilmington, NC, and elsewhere. Of course, you buy them for the cool look, not for the taste, the health costs/benefits, or any other ridiculous reason. You can alsways get them?along with the chocolateand bubble gum varieties? on the Web, if a handy candy nostalgia emporium is too far away.
