When Obama tries to defend his authoritarian agenda, he usually does so by setting up false dilemmas and strawmen. That line about how “the mess” was created by others, who should shut up and get out of the way, implicitly divides the country into his supporters and those terrible GOP politicians who were in power in Washington previously. Yes, they did create a mess, but that doesn’t make his statist agenda immune from criticism — not even from those GOP politicians, much less anyone else.
It doesn’t surprise me that Obama’s authoritarian side is now coming out. He deeply believes in government power. Why not use it to silence criticism?
