I’ve given the same quiz to my students for several semesters now.  After giving it some careful thought, I’ve come to two conclusions:

  1. Americans often confuse political philosophy with political parties.  This quiz does not make that mistake.  Democrats are not purely “liberal” – think about their stand on corporate welfare and jobs.  Republicans are not purely “conservative.”  In fact, most Americans probably fall well within the outer bounds of this quiz – closer to “Centrist” than philosophical purity of any kind.
  2. The Quiz does not dwell on issues relating to religion (often a sticking point for conservatives), which I think is a sound decision.  After all, would pro-life be a libertarian position (natural rights of the unborn) or a statist one (government usurpation of individual decision-making)?  The answer to that question rests soundly in religion – not politics.

Ok, now I’m done with the lecture.

I’m a Libertarian (100% on both axes.)  I doubt anyone’s surprised.
