Yesterday’s N&R front-pager sets up a confrontation between a frustrated Greensboro City Council and the Greensboro Economic Alliance, but apparently there was just a lot listening going on. Mayor Nancy Vaughan remained “silent for nearly two hours,” after which she said “what the council wants to do is take a look at how effective our programs have been.” Council member and 6th District Congressional candidate Zack Matheny presented on his shovel -ready site plan and his ‘pet projects-‘— shovel ready sites and new road signs directing drivers downtown.

The Biz Journal digs a little deeper, but the bottom line is well, the bottom line. Gboro isn’t getting the bang for the buck from its various economic development arms, and the question is how long the City Council and Guilford County commissioners — which has not one but two 6th District candidates — will keep the money flowing.

My guess is there will continue to be a lot of talk but very little change.
