As a power company employee, I suppose I could say “Thank you for consuming our product! Mmm, hmm!”

But I won’t, because (a)it’s wasteful, as in poor stewardship; (b) it’s tax dollars and dollars and dollars out the window; and (c) most of it probably wasn’t even electric.

The one thing I can say in defense of the students is that I’ve been in more than one classroom building where the choices are either broil or freeze-dry settings. Ah, the beauty of averaging.

Plato, despair! We prove by norms
How numbers bear empiric forms;
How random wrong will average right
If time be long and error slight

Update:I found the reference for the poem from my fuzzy logic textbook; it’s J. V. Cunningham’s “Meditation on Statistical Method” and I corrected a word above.
