The News & Observer reported that the search committee for a new chancellor at N.C. State “is expected to have a budget of $150,000 to $200,000.” That’s just to find someone; the salary could range from “$257,124 to $411,429.”

At least $150,000 to find a chancellor. By way of comparison, that’s how much NC State paid its chancellor only nine years ago. The N&O reported on April 22, 1995, that then-chancellor Larry K. Monteith earned $150,360 in 1995.

And goodness knows how much NC State will spend to “install” their new find.

P.S. John and other headline watchers: You’ll appreciate the redundancy in the subhead of the N&O story.
