The Michigan results and aftermath point to something very odd about the difference between left and right in their approaches to their fellow citizens. Michigan voters reelected a Democratic governor (56-42-1) and Democratic senator(57-41-2), but by a 58-42 margin they also voted to end affirmative action in state university admissions and government hiring and contracting. But the Left wasn’t happy.

Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman led a rally on the Diag at the center of Michigan’s campus and a group in Detroit called By Any Means Necessary filed a lawsuit. It goes to the heart of the kind of diversity some people want — a group that looks like America but thinks like they do.
