This is a little more on what Joe brought up last week about the obesity issue, its growth in America and the alarmism of it followers (Like Paul Krugman?s ?Girth of a Nation? in the New York Times).

Yahoo News has an article on its web site today entitled Obesity rising rapidly in developing nations that reports a rise in obesity in once solely undernourished nations.

Some issues:
1.Perhaps we should adjust our definition of obesity (One billion overweight seems a bit much).
2.Obesity is not a health problem in and of itself. Nor is it an epidemic.
3.Perhaps policy makers in those developing nations should worry more about the undernourished than the over nourished.
4.The BMI and ‘one size fits all? notions of weight are not good measures of health (see Joe’s blog on July 14th).
