Terry, no doubt McCartney’s is among the worst of annoying holiday songs. This year, for whatever reason, I’ve heard stores playing Kenny Chesney’s rendition of “Jingle Bells,” and it is fast elbowing its way among the most noxious.

It is joyless, andante (walking speed; there’s no “dashing” to be heard), and most vexing of all, rendered spondaic by his laconic it’s-country-music-nasal intonation:

‘JAAAN ? ‘GULLL ?’BELLLS,
‘JAAAN ? ‘GULLL ?’BELLLS,
‘JAAAN ? ‘GULLL ?’AWWWWL ?
