The City of Greensboro extends the comment period for its proposed land development ordinance after the Rhino’s John Hammer writes about the public hearing that wasn’t.

I’m not that worked up about the proposed tree in every yard rule, even if it does shows typical government doubt our intelligence and ability to plant a tree in our own yard.

As you can imagine, I’m more disturbed by the plan to encourage “developments that mix residential and commercial uses and high-density residential development, such as apartments, along major roadways with access to public transportation.”

I find it hard to believe that the city would re-write the development ordinacne just so everyone can take the bus, now that Guilford County officially has the state’s blessing to put a transit sales tax on the ballot. Once the city gets the zoning in place, how long could it be before the county starts pitching the sales tax?

Full disclosure: I have not read the 514-page ordinance.
