While food stamp recipients are at an all-time high, Henderson County is lamenting 55% of its students are enrolled in the federal Free and Reduced Meal Program. In spite of all that, teachers are often reaching into their own wallets to give kids lunch money, and local charities help stuff back packs with victuals so the kids can eat at home. If the kids come from normal familes, then Dad has split town, and Mom, if she has any motherly instincts, is starving worse than the kids.
