That’s the name of Randy Pickle’s new Web site in Durham. He explains his goal on the site’s home page:

I started this website because Durham is broken. It’s not just one place here or there, it’s across the board. Everywhere I go, I hear the citizens asking WHY. Hence, What’s Happening to You (WHY). And I don’t think I’ll be able to give you a lot of answers as to WHY, but I hope to use this site to show those who lead our City, that there is no reason for things to be the way they are. Maybe we can get some of them fixed along the way.

why siteA lot of us here feel that things or broken, or, if not actually broken, not working right. The site has the following categories: parks, roads, trash, signs and other. Parks and trash are the only ones with content right now, but I’m sure that will change. Make a point of reading his account on the trash page of trying to get a woman a new roll-out garbage bin. It’s hilarious and illuminating. Every Durhamite will recognize the clueless bureaucrats he was forced to deal with.

Also read his parks page. Since Pickle lives near Forest Hills Park, he notices things most of us miss when we drive by, such as why one sign calls it “Forrest Hills Park.” He asks many other good questions about trees, grass, leaves and parking. If city leaders aren’t reading this site, they should start. This is citizen journalism at its basic and best.
