Whilst I was falling off the back of the proverbial turnip truck, government officials found new life in regionalism. Not only does it remove control from locals and usually put it in the hands of out-of-touch bureaucrats; not only does it put all eggs in the basket of the regional leaders; and not only does it eliminate competition among governing bodies allowing government to name its price for shoddy services – none of these concerns factor into the matrix Buncombe County will be using to assess regional initiatives.
