On Tuesday, the State Board of Elections will certify the results, which show Republican Renee Ellmers has defeated Democratic incumbent Bob Etheridge for the 2nd District seat in Congress. Rep. Etheridge conceded this afternoon. The county-by-county recount results can be found here.

From the News & Observer:

U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge finally acknowledged Friday what the numbers have said since Nov. 2. He has lost a seat he’s held for 14 years to a political newcomer and Tea Party darling, Renee Ellmers.

“The numbers confirm that despite the incredible support we had – and neither candidate getting to 50 percent – in the end we came up just a little too short,” Etheridge said in his statement.
