Rep. Josh Dobson was sworn in Wednesday as the new representative from the 85th House District. Dobson, a Republican and a former McDowell County commissioner, replaces former Rep. Mitch Gillespie, R-McDowell, who resigned to become assistant secretary at DENR.

The 85th District encompasses Avery, McDowell, and Mitchell counties. The district GOP committee met earlier this week to select Dobson as Gillespie’s replacement.

“I am eager to work with Josh Dobson, and I have no doubt that he will be an effective advocate for his constituents and will plan an important role in the North Carolina House of Representatives,” House Speaker Thom Tillis, R-Mecklenburg, said in a statement.
