Democratic North Carolina Congressman David Price is one of the people interviewed for this politico.com online debate question:

Fall of the angry left? Will purity doom Republicans in November?

Here is part of Rep. Price’s answer. You’ll find the full answer here. (emphasis is mine)

In Arkansas, I do not think the ideological distinction between the two [Democratic] candidates was that great, but clearly there were some groups supporting Halter. In a similar way you could deconstruct the Pennsylvania race between Sestak and Specter. There are just so many unique factors at work there. In other words, there is not a comparable Democratic trend toward ideological purity, or kind of extreme or strident elements of the party getting a hold of the electoral process, to what we see among Republicans. Our politics is not as ideological to start with on the Democratic side.

I have no problem with anyone’s politics being based in ideology and it is evident from left to right. For example, ask a pro-choice Democrat about anything they consider related to so-called “reproductive rights” for women. If it wasn’t based in ideology, pro-choicers would have no problem admitting that TWO people die when a pregnant woman is killed.
