The Graham County Commissioners voted in favor of sending a resolution opposing the sale of alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs to the local chamber of commerce. Graham remains the only dry county in the state, with alcohol sales only allowed at resorts. Rumors of a petition to change things precipitated public discussion.

At first, the commissioners approved a resolution of opposition 3-2. County Attorney Donna Cody questioned the utility of a petition of opposition when the commissioners had no power to override a valid petition. The commissioners therefore voted to rescind the vote and then unanimously approved a resolution stating they were “personally” opposed to the activities in Graham.
