Today will mark the last print edition of the Charlotte incarnation of The Rhino Times. The rabble-rousing weekly is shifting to a Web-only presence, citing the high cost of distribution and newsprint as factors.
Editor Mark Pellin relates that the Web-publication will continue to cover all the QC flash points, like city and county government and CMS but with the added freedom of not having a hard weekly print deadline. He concedes, however, that some non-Web savvy readers of the print Rhino, particularly senior citizens, might not make the jump to the new format.
As for me I find it interesting that alt-media is leading the charge away from dead-tree formats, something the mainstream dailies continue to fight tooth and nail.
