State Auditor Les Merritt has gone a long way toward confirming state Rep. John Rhodes’ suspicions about the Northeast Partnership and the Northeastern North Carolina Regional Economic Development Commission. Rhodes has been asking for an investigation of the state-funded out-fit for about two years now. Merritt’s new report found several questionable financial dealings that make the group look like little more than a publically-funded piggy bank.

If Attorney General Roy Cooper can tear himself away from his War on Sudafed and running for governor, he might want to look into things.
