A federal grand jury wants to hear from Morgan, no doubt on the ongoing Speaker Jim Black matter and the $50,000 bribe paid to Michael Decker.

As the AP explains:

Morgan and Black, D-Mecklenburg, were co-speakers of the House during the 2003-04 legislative session. That agreement occurred after Rep. Michael Decker switched from the Republican Party to the Democrats, creating a 60-60 party split in the chamber. The move gave Black leverage to reach a power-sharing arrangement with Morgan.

Decker pleaded guilty in August to a conspiracy charge, admitting he solicited and accepted $50,000 in campaign funds and cash to switch parties.

Decker, under oath, recently told a Raleigh judge that Black was a co-conspirator in the money-for-power scheme.

Morgan appears to be trying to put off his testimony as long as possible, citing “scheduling conflicts” that would put off his grand jury date for 30 days or more. Make of that what you will.
